When I was a kid I could think of very few things more boring that birding. Snooooooozer. But lately I find myself wanting to learn of and identify birds. I really have no idea why. However, the more I watch them, the more interested I become.

I have a nifty little bird book with pictures for identification,I have no shortage of birds out my window, and I have a crappy set of binoculars sitting next that give me a headache whenever I use them because only one eye focuses at a time. But that's off the subject.

Last week I was SURE I had finally identified a bird and was feeling quite proud of my accomplishment. The description I read fit the bill (haha. Bird joke). But then I stumbled across another website with better pictures and description and I'm pretty sure I am WAAAAY off.

I have, however, learned some pretty funny things in my ornithological quest. Who names these birds, anyway? Must have been men. There's a bird called a bushtit!?!?!? And one called a booby!!! What the heck!?!?! What, exactly, does the booby look like??

Hmm..I'm not so sure I want to Google "booby"; who knows what will come up. ;)
You live in such a great place for birdwatching. The nature reserve in Wenatchee just opened back up...it's fun to go now, before the mosquitoes are out.

I'm with you. I never thought much of birds until I received a bird feeder for Christmas. Those birds names are hilarious. Like Dawn, I don't think I'll risk googling though. :)

I actually found myself becoming fascinated with the birds outside our window too. Some are just so beautiful!

You cracked me up on the men making up the bird's names. So true! Men!

Delena you are too funny!! I am looking into doing this with my kids if we can get any darn birds to fly in our yard. check out this site,http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/UnderHisConstruction/654498/ she has a month of bird watching and books to get from the library to go along with it.
Thank you for your encouragement, sometimes you can't see the forest through the trees.
