Flutterbies

We're growing butterflies these days at the Eisenhard House of Perpetual Learning. I am amazed at how quickly these critters grow. They arrived being about 1 cm long. I was pretty sure they were dead because they move sooooo slow. (Imagine that). Now they're probably close to an inch - in a matter of days. In fact, we can see changes from one night to the next morning. Its quite amazing and I highly recommend it.

The butterfly's life is only a couple of weeks long. Lets hope its a good one. The caterpillars are supposed to metamorph in 7-10 days. Can't wait! And as I type this, it suddenly occurs to me that we may be out of town when this is all taking place!!!! They're coming with us. That's all there is to it. We'll just pack 'em up and take 'em to the ocean with us.

Ty: Mommy, why do you always wear make-up.
Brooklyn: Because she's not a peasant mommy. (?) Peasant mommies don't wear make-up.

Thought you'd like to know.

----------------------------------------------------------
This weekend Brooklyn was in a freaked-out mood, hand gestures and all, pleading with me to figure out the DVD player (way out of my league.) I was lamenting to the family about her over-dramatized way of life these days. They all laughed at me. Kind of like they thought I deserved it or something.

Fast forward a day or two when Doug asked me why I hadn't finished one of the many projects I'd started. I freaked out on him, hand gestures and all, explaining to him the lack of tools and buckets and just what exactly I needed in order to finish the job.

It was that exact moment that I realized Brooklyn has not inherited some recessive gene. Nope. I beleive she got it from me.

We've been making smores recently. Yum. Feels like we're camping.

The kiddos on a hike up to Silver Falls this weekend. It was awesome. Hopefully we'll get back up there soon.

A star is born

I'm sure I'm just humoring myself, but this is my blog. Brooklyn grabbed the guitar today and was singing her heart out. Apparently she's been watching too much Hannah Montana.

We are the proud owners of four ducks and a goose thanks to Uncle Shane and Co. No names yet but we're taking suggestions again! I've decided I like ducks alot more than roosters. We'll see what I think of the goose....
We moved them to their new home last night (do you call it a duck coop?) In keeping with the Entiat way of life, we covered the pen with a tarp and a couple of pieces of plywood. I'm so proud.

Just a few fun pics from last weekend outside. This is Brooklyn, if you couldn't tell from her hat. She wears this costume all the time. I think the green alligator rain boots really set off the pink, don't you?
